A secret about Cyprus Wine not to be taken as an advertisement - Xynisteri...
Tsalapatis from Polemi breaking through with whites. More to a taste Tsalapatis - George...
A world of aromas. Full of ripe plum as well as mint, tobacco, moccha, hint of blackcurrant leaf, chocolate, dark spices, ink and green pepper. However after longer decanting the aforementioned notes are mixed with pepper, blueberry and leather.
Laid-Back Sommelier has good friends worthy to have brought the Keo Heritage bottle from Cyprus to show the capability of local wine making.
The Heritage 2008 is an interesting wine, the 2008’s palate is soft, round and almost silky and with nice acidity. Full-bodied with a grip on the mid-palate however with a slightly bitter and short finish. Aged for 3 years in French oak from Limousin, the wine’s tannins are nicely integated at the age of 4 years (tasted in July 2012).
Just a note about Maratheftiko Vineyards, Pitsilia today is actually the region where Marathefiko is least grown today, as Krasochoria, Vouni Panayia and Diarizos regions concentrate today most of the fields with this variety which in the coming years will produce single estate Maratheftiko wines which should be even more interesting.

WineGraphing Cyprus wines in Moscow
Although some might see a repeat of last year’s event, nothing far from it. The Daily WineGraph (a.k.a Denis Roundenko) will add a new twist to his Cyprus Wine tasting in Moscow later on this month when he brings head to head Cyprus wine variety Xynisteri against Shiraz. Winemaking from Cyprus could be more exciting for Russian palates.

New year, a new vintage - not so quick with Commandaria Wine.
Unlike any other wine in Cyprus, time can sit still when the time comes to tasting or enjoying Commandaria.
A recent tasting with Vasos, sommelier at Risto La Piazza presented us with 3 vintages, 20 - 9 - and 4 years of ageing in oak barrels respectively. What to say? And should we spoil the moment by revealing what it is exactly that this sweet fortified wines have as a magical.
Let’s just say, recuperating an expression shared with us recently, Commandaria such a wine that has stories to tell - indeed, I felt is was more like storytelling in the form of sweet wine whispers.
Unveiling some of the Xynisteri 2011, a wine tasting announcing another great vintage.
The trio of wines unveiled recently at Risto La Piazza, with Vasos Manolis, brought some reassurance of the great work that winemakers have done over the winter in overcoming the shortcomings of the Xynisteri harvest conditions this past year. An over all very satisfying feeling how these wines are being embraced locally too.
